Holiday Pet Gifts: Tucker's Approved List 2025
Tucker has evaluated every product on this list. Mittens has opinions about half of them. Cole bought something off-list. Here is the approved guide. See full review →
Tucker has been evaluating products seriously since October. By December, he had established clear preferences across six categories: food, treats, toys, bedding, health, and outdoor. We asked him — through careful observation rather than direct conversation, which is not an option — to identify what he would want for the holidays.
The result is the most rigorously curated pet gift guide we've produced.
Category: Treats
Zuke's Mini Naturals (chicken flavor): Tucker's highest-rated training treat. He responds to these at a distance of approximately 30 feet, which we've confirmed by having someone hold Tucker at one end of the yard while another person opens the bag at the other end. His head snapped around in under two seconds. Five-star olfactory performance. A reliable gift for any dog owner who trains.
Greenies Original Dental Treats: Tucker approved both the taste (he finishes them without hesitation) and the dental purpose (we've noticed improvement in what his vet calls "oral health markers"). A practical gift with Tucker's endorsement.
Category: Toys
Kong Classic: Already reviewed extensively. Two years of active use with no structural failure. The best durability-per-dollar ratio in Tucker's toy history. Get one if the recipient doesn't have one. Get a second size if they do.
Chuckit Ultra Ball: Tucker approved this twice. He approved the first one in September and the second one — a different size — in November. He has never before approved the same product twice. We noted this in the formal record. The bounce is correct. The grip is correct. Tucker has strong opinions about ball physics and this one satisfies them.
Category: Bedding
Furhaven Orthopedic Bed: Tucker uses this daily. Mittens has also used it on seven separate occasions without being invited, which we count as an independent endorsement. Good for dogs whose joints would benefit from cushioning. Good for cats who walk through rooms and decide things.
The Cole Situation
Cole bought Tucker a rope toy that isn't on this list. It wasn't bad — Tucker examined it thoroughly and engaged with it for three minutes before losing interest. Three minutes is not an endorsement, but it's not a rejection. Cole's instincts continue to be approximately correct in aggregate, even when the specific choice doesn't make the approved list.
We told him about the Chuckit Ultra Ball. He said "I knew he'd like that." He had not bought it. We suggested he buy it. He said he would. This is where it stands as of December.
